Reiki and Me: How it found me
Reiki found me in 2003, and I really do feel like Reiki found me rather than the other way round. I had just completed an evening class in Indian Head Massage and wanted to learn another Complementary Therapy. I saw that an evening class in Reiki was starting very soon so decided to join that. I had no idea what it was and I had no idea how much it was going to change my life. It seems strange now that I would sign up to do a course not knowing anything about what I was getting into but there was obviously something in me that was attracted to it. I have often heard it said that Reiki usually finds someone just before they are about to make some big life changes as a way of supporting that person; I would come to realise the truth of it.
Following my first attunement to Reiki it was like someone had turned the light on. My eyes were suddenly open to colour. It was autumn and I couldn't believe the colours of the trees, it was like I had never noticed them before, they were so beautiful! I used to wear a lot of black clothing but after Reiki I want to wear bright colours and sometimes so many bright colours all at the same time. I don't care if they match I just need to be surrounded by colour!
Over the following years I found a lot of comfort in Reiki. I was working for a big corporate company but knew I wasn't meant to be there. It sounds like such a cliche but I think a lot of people find themselves in this situation. They are living another persons life and it creates a lot of stress in the body. Slowly but surely over the following years I began to learn more about other Complementary Therapies and started a regular Yoga practice followed by completing my Yoga Teacher Training course in 2013. It has been a steady transformation from living another persons life to living my own. It has been a journey of self discovery and to realising my own truth.
I am eternally grateful to have received the gift of Reiki in my life and this year in particular with its many challenges; I am thankful to be able to come home to myself through Reiki. It connects me back to my inner light and this is how I feel Reiki, as a light coming down through the crown of my head. It reminds me that I am not alone and that I am divinely guided and supported.
I remember not knowing how Reiki was working when I first learnt it, I couldn't understand what was coming down through my head. I had lived such a 3D life before and had always been taught that my body was purely physical as I'm sure lots of other people are. I had completed a science degree where things had to be explained scientifically; so how could I explain Reiki?
Through my journey with Reiki I have come to realise how much that everything is energy and we are more than a physical body. Our thoughts are energy, our emotions are energy, everything we attract into our lives is because of our energetic vibration. Energy is what our physical body is made up of but just in a denser form. So when we give a Reiki treatment the practitioner is drawing down the highest vibrational energy through them into their body.
I am happy to say that this year I completed my training and became a Reiki Master Teacher in August 2020 and I hope to be able to share this gift with many more people. Keep an eye out for when I start running courses but in the meantime I am offering Reiki treatments in person again (yay!) and also distantly.
